Why are typosquats a risk to your organization?

What are typosquats?

Typosquatting, also called URL hijacking, is when an attacker targets a brand and registers a domain relying on typographical errors. The attacker tricks users who accidentally enter an incorrect website or they send fake emails from a similar-sounding domain name.

How do you combat typosquats?

If you discover your website is a victim of typosquatting, you can send a cease and desist letter to the offender. To protect your website from typosquatting, you can register domains with common misspellings while creating your website. For example, www.Google.com would also register the domains of www.gogle.com and www.googl.com, among others.
